Does the Punishment Fit the Crime?

In the story Candide, the author Voltaire writes that the main character Candide kisses Ms. Cunegonde and gets banished out of this utopia of a kingdom. Candide then becomes lost in a world he is never exposed to thus running into good, bad, and evil people. The question is, did he deserve being banished from the only place he could call home? Well in my opinion yes, in this case the punishment does fit the crime. My reasons for this are simple. He was told not to do something, and he did it knowing the consequences. Candide let his curiousity and emotions take over and he never thought about the consequence. He never thought about having to live outside this "utopia" so I think it's his fault. It seems that he doesn't mind being outside the kingdom though. His only concern is that he meet up with Miss Cunegonde again and they be together forever. Still though, his best of all possible worlds theory stood, and he never questioned any of the events that happened to him. Another reason why he deserved to be kicked out is because he simply disobeyed the Baron's orders and when you are as low as Candide had been thought of, they won't need you in their kingdom. So it was an easy decision to kick him out.
